A fourth film is planned for release on December 21, 2029. Jon Landau said that, due to an eight-year time skip in the first act, a third of Avatar 4 has already been filmed to account for the aging of the child actors, and Cameron revealed that principal photography had officially begun for Avatar 4.
The fourth and fifth movies in the Avatar series, which do not yet have titles, have been scheduled to hit theaters in 2029 and 2031. However, Sanchini described those release dates as “tentative” and that the production intends to finalize release dates for the movies “in the not too distant future.”
James Cameron confirmed Avatar 6 and 7, but revealed he won’t direct them. Without Cameron, the franchise may suffer as his unique filmmaking skills are crucial. However, Cameron could finally work on a non-Avatar movie after the fifth film, exploring new projects.
