Supergirl is an upcoming American superhero film based on the eponymous character from DC Comics. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, it will be the second film in the DC Universe (DCU). Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa. In the film, Supergirl travels across the galaxy on a murderous quest for revenge. It is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios.

Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) comes from the Kryptonian city of Argo City, which survived Krypton’s destruction. When a powerful energy source called the Omegahedron is accidentally lost on Earth, Kara travels there to recover it.
On Earth, the Omegahedron falls into the hands of an evil witch named Selena, who uses it to gain supernatural powers and try to rule the world. Kara must learn to control her own abilities, adapt to life on Earth, and face Selena in a battle of power and courage to save both worlds.

The character first appeared in the story “The Supergirl from Krypton” in Action Comics #252 (May 1959). She is the biological cousin of Kal-El, who went on to adopt the name of Clark Kent and the superhero identity Superman. Her father, Zor-El, is the brother of Superman’s father, Jor-El.

Because of changing editorial policy at DC, Supergirl was killed off in the 1985 event Crisis on Infinite Earths. DC Comics subsequently rebooted the continuity of the DC Comics Universe, re-establishing Superman as the sole survivor of Krypton’s destruction.
James Gunn confirms he did not write or direct supergirl this was something that was already confirmed but for some reason is ignored by some people.
